Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic, public speaker and Canadian. Feminist Frequency was created by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos with commentary that analyze the depictions of women in popular culture. Anita Sarkeesian has been a blogger, critic of the media and award-winning feminist for over 10 years. Feminist Frequency, a website to educate women about their role in the narratives of pop culture It is the brainchild of Anita Sarkeesian. The site also has the executive director. Aiming to break down the stereotypes associated with women in popular culture, she seeks to bring attention to targeted exploitation of women and the other marginalized groups of people in the online world. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social, political and philosophical thought. In addition to being a well-known public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO conference and the United Nations Broadband Working Group. She has been interested in the gender issue and feminist movements at a young stage of her life. When she graduated in 2009, continuing to study at the university level she started the Feminist Frequency web site. This ambitious woman planned to create an online series on the role of gender in games and was then the victim of an online harassment campaign. The attack did not stop her from pursuing the project, and instead it bolstered her resolve as an activist for women in media. Numerous awards have been awarded to her in recognition of all the contributions that she contributed to. Anita Sarkeesian, a media critic who has won numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency which is an educational nonprofit that studies how women are represented in the popular culture stories.
