Julie London

JulieJulie London (nee Peck, September 26, 1926 - October 18th 20th, 2000) is an American performer and actress. Her career spans more than 40 years. London was a torch performer famous for her smooth, melodic vocals and languid contralto voice, recorded more than thirty albums of jazz and pop standards between 1955 and 1969. Inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame was her recording of "Cry Me a River" which she first performed on her debut album. London was also nominated in 1974 for the Golden Globe Award for her character as Dixie McCall, a nurse on Emergency! Born in Santa Rosa, California, to vaudevillian parents, London was discovered while working as an elevator operator in downtown Los Angeles, and she started her acting career. London's 35-year acting career began in the film industry in 1944. It included roles in the lead female role in various westerns. In the mid-50s she signed a recording contract with Liberty Records. This was the beginning of her professional music career. Her last studio album was released in 1969. Her success continued as the female star role of Dixie McCall on the television show Emergency! (1972-1979) and was a co-star along with Bobby Troup. Jack Webb produced the show.
